Le vendredi après-midi à l'ISGE /..../ Friday afternoon at ISGE

Depuis Septembre 2013 à l'Institut San Giovanni Evangelista de Rome, de nombreuses activités sont proposées aux jeunes.

J'ai eu, entre autres, la joie de participer au groupe de jeu d'échec qui se déroule dans la bibliothèque de l'Institut.

Une quinzaine de personnes font partie de ce groupe et provienent de classes diverses. La rencontre est animée par notre professeur de mathématiques (pour le lycée scientifique), Giuseppe Fanelli, un passionné d'échecs.

L'activité est très stimulante. Un jeune qui sait jouer est associé à un autre jeune de niveau équivalent pour qu'ils puissent s'améliorer. A ceux qui n'ont jamais eu la chance d'affronter un adversaire sur l'échiquier, on enseigne les règles de base du jeu, pour les amener ensuite à faire leurs premiers pas.

Tant pour le professeur que pour les participants, c'est une grande joie que de passer deux heures ensemble le vendredi après-midi!

Toutefois, ce qui rend ces rencontres vraiment passionnantes, c'est la présence du maître d'échecs Fernando Gargiulo (père d'un des membres du groupe) qui est toujours heureux de se joindre à nous quand son emploi du temps le permet.

Since September 2013, at ISGE in Rome, a great number of activities have been proposed to the students.

I have had the chance to take part in the Chess group, in the library of ISGE.

About 15 persons are members of this group; they come from different classes.

The meeting is organized and animated by our Mathematics Teacher (for the Scientific classes), Giuseppe Fanelli, who has a passion for chess.

It is very stimulating. Someone who can play chess is associated with another young person of the same level in order to make them get better. Those who never had the chance to play chess are taught the basic rules, to help them to start playing.

It is a great delight for the teachers and for the pupils to spend two hours together on Friday afternoon!

I must say that, what makes these meetings really exciting, is the presence of the Chess Master Fernando Gargiulo (The father of a member of the group) who joins us when his timetable is not too busy.
