La comédie musicale : une tradition à St Vincent ? /.../ Musical comedy : a tradition at St Vincent ?

Chaque année, depuis 4 ans déjà, des groupes d'élèves de 1ère partent à L'Ile de Wight monter une comédie musicale.

Fin septembre 2014, ce sont 35 élèves de 1L et de 1ES qui ont travaillé une semaine, entourés de professionnels de Spotlight. Aucun n'avait jamais chanté ou dansé en public.

Ils ont une fois encore relevé le défi et joué leur spectacle 'Bad Hair Day' au théâtre de Shanklin puis ils ont remis en scène quelques extraits au lycée le 23 janvier 2015.

Le bonheur de voir les plus timides se révéler ainsi, de lire la joie sur les visages donne à chaque fois l'envie de recommencer.

Les élèves ont souvent acquis davantage de confiance en eux, ont appris à travailler en équipe et développent notamment leur compréhension de l'anglais oral.

Certains prennent option théâtre au Bac, d'autres découvrent même une vocation et tous reviennent avec des souvenirs qu'ils ne sont pas prêts d'oublier.

Nous repartirons, si tout va bien, cette année encore en octobre 2015.

MOONRISE CLUB - TL - 35 minutes of real fun !

Très grand succès pour la comédie musicale créée par le groupe spécialité anglais, puis jouée par toute la classe de TL une première fois le jeudi 23 avril 2015 puis deux fois encore le vendredi 24 !

Ce projet, né à la suite de l'étude d'un dossier 'How far can we say that American musicals mirror society?', a tout de suite suscité l'enthousiasme des élèves qui ont vraiment fait un travail extraordinaire.

Je tiens ici encore à les en remercier.

Every year for the past four years a group of lower sixth students has set off for the Isle of Wight in order to stage a musical comedy.

At the end of September 2014, 35 students on the literature and socio-economic programmes worked for a week with professionals from Spotlight. None of them had previously sung or danced in public.

They once more took up the challenge and put on their show 'Bad Hair Day' at the Shanklin Theatre. Then, they staged extracts at the school on 23 January 2015.

It is wonderful to see even the most shy of pupils perform in this way, and seeing the joy on their faces makes you want to do it all over again.

The pupils often develop their own self-confidence, learn to work as a team, and, in particular, improve their understanding of spoken English.

Some of them choose drama as an option for their exams, others discover that they have a real calling, and all of them return with memories they will not forget in a long time.

If all goes well, we shall set off again in October 2015.

The musical comedy created by the English speciality group was a great success. It was staged on Thursday 23 April by the upper sixth literature class, and then put on twice more on Friday 24 April!

This activity, which arose out of the project 'How far can we say that American musicals mirror society?', immediately fired the enthusiasm of the pupils who worked extraordinarily well.

I should like to thank them here once again.
