SMC: Door of Mercy /.../ Porte de la Miséricorde

Pope Francis announced that from 8 December 2015 until 20 November 2016 a special 'Year of Mercy' would be celebrated throughout the Catholic Church. This call to all people of good will to come together and to show mercy to one another has been embraced at St Mary's College. Our Bishop, John Arnold, has blessed a portable "Door of Mercy" and this door is visiting each school and college starting in January 2016.

The Holy Door arrived at St Mary's College on Monday 1 February 2016. Pupils and staff from St Alban's Primary School presented the door to Frank Dixon, Principal, Christine Macauley, Chaplain, Steve D'Arcy, Head of Religious Education, and to college students in a ceremony in the college's Chapel.

Here at St Mary's we feel truly blessed and honoured to host the Holy Door on its journey throughout the Diocese. Its arrival has given staff and students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Mercy and to further highlight the importance of treating all people with the respect and dignity that each person deserves.

The "Door of Mercy" was presented to the staff and students of St Joseph's Primary School in Darwen on Tuesday 2 February 2016.

Le 8 décembre 2015 le pape François a inauguré "l'année sainte de la miséricorde" qui se poursuivra jusqu'au 20 novembre 2016. St Mary's a répondu à cet appel aux hommes et aux femmes de bonne volonté du monde entier. Notre évèque, John Arnold, a béni une "Porte de la Miséricorde" portative qui va visiter tous les établissements scolaires du diocèse.

La Porte Sainte est arrivée au SMC le lundi 1 février 2016. Des élèves et des enseignants de St Alban's Primary School ont présenté la porte à Frank Dixon, chef d'établissement, à Christine Macauley, APS, à Steve D'Arcy, responsable de l'enseignement religieux, et à des élèves du lycée lors d'une cérémonie dans la chapelle du lycée.

Nous nous sentons bénis et privilégiés d'avoir eu l'occasion d'accueillir la Porte Sainte pendant son voyage aux quatre coins du diocèse. Son arrivée a permis aux personnels et aux élèves d'approfondir leur compréhension de la miséricorde et de mettre en relief l'importance d'accorder à tout le monde le respect et la dignité.

La porte a été présentée le mardi 2 février 2016 aux personnels et aux élèves de St Joseph's Primary School à Darwen.
